go speed racer go
so last night i spent like what felt forever watching a highly expensive snorefest. yes. i saw speed racer. it was awful. awful. i think the wachowski brothers could benefit from a few screenwriting classes. yes, i said it. they've made one good movie in a series of 3 and apparently had years to set that up. but speed racer felt like they thought they were so awesome and didn't need to send the script through rewrites. in fact the first hour feels like a showcase of their god awful special effects with crap going on to try and keep your attention. it did not. i flipped through my phone and deleted old text messages for a while. but as for those special effects, they look awesome in the racing scenes but when the characters should be walking around an office and the office doesn't exist? wtf? $200 billion and you can't afford a room? what about extras? the replication of people milling around the background was easily one of the worst photoshopping jobs i've ever seen.
the look of the movie would have improved vastly if some money was spent on locations and extras instead of wasted on the horrendous green screening and animating. and if the first 50 or so pages of the screenplay had been tossed out and rewritten, this definitely could have been the amazing movie it seemed like it would have been. so for those of you out there who are still determined to see this movie, don't. i read the reviews, i knew it was going to be a suckfest. but i was still determined. it's speed racer! i never loved the cartoon show but still, i was familiar with it. the cast was awesome and sometimes i like bad summer movies. big mistake. i was ready to suck on a shotgun before the first act was even over.
consider yourself warned.
oh but in other news, i've decided i want to dress up as speed racer for halloween!

The Wachowski bros certainly put a lot of effort into making Speed Racer... the movie overall looked and felt like a cross between anime, a kaleidoscope, that Flintstones movie, a video game and the Dukes of Hazard
