Daily 365 - Second Month

My first month of daily 15 minute designs was certainly interesting. Unfortunately, the second month was just as difficult to keep up with! The first and second month kind of blended together with Heaven For Betsy posters, which we saw an example of in my last post.

A conversation with my friend Josh about my dog Tripp having his own reality show inspired me to design a poster ad. I think it's extremely cute and I had every intention of taking some daily365 time to shoot a pilot. That failed to materialize but I'm still determined to get it done this month! I'll probably have to devote a full week's daily365 time to it. One day to brainstorm and outline (it's reality! who needs a script?), another couple of days to shoot, and another day or two to edit. I promise it will happen!

Maybe it was the pink in the "That Skinny Dog" poster that put me in the mood to design something for Valentine's Day. I really intended to get more comfortable with Illustrator and create some art but I did this in Photoshop and it's pretty similar to some of my previous Mail Art.

In my first month, I had some intentions of creating pieces for a blog Jake and I are supposed to be writing about the "work" we've put into our first home. All I did was design a logo but this month I created a background and then a header. It's looking pretty good. Hopefully I'll get a couple of more things done for it this month and the Wishing For Wisteria blog will finally look unique and hopefully content will soon come.

An afternoon spent listening to a presentation on accessibility in PowerPoint, inspired me to create some artwork. It looks a little cheesy, which I meant for it to be, but I still can't help but feel like if I were more comfortable with Illustrator I could have made something a little more technically impressive. Anyway, the idea was that using 3-D charts and graphs in PowerPoint confuses people and can be difficult to understand. 3-D is bad!

If you're following my posts on Twitter, you'll notice there were some black out dates between designs. Yes, partly because I've been bad about keeping up, but partly because I wrote a few posts for the Austinist. Yes, I would count the time spent writing as my daily365 time since I only have a few hours a day to create anyway. (You can check out all my Austinist articles here.) After writing one article about a gay hate crime committed here in Austin, I decided to design a poster advertising the march that was organized to show support for the victims. The march was mostly being advertised, it seems, through Facebook and there were no real marketing materials to speak of. In retrospect, I probably should have offered the poster rather than only posting it to my twitterfeed. I had originally thought of creating something more socialist looking, but with only 15 minutes and my weak illustrating skills, I decided to go with something a little more modern and powerful. I also opted to stay away from rainbows and peace symbols but rather show strength in the idea of peace and unity through the color scheme and typography and some dove icons. I really wanted to emphasize the idea of marching against hate (as in the title of the march) rather than it being some sort of gay pride march, which I felt would attract a more limited audience. I'm pleased with the poster but at the same time it may look a little too modern and maybe more club scene oriented rather than social justice.

There may not be many designs but February was actually a busy month! And there was quite a bit of writing involved on the days where designs didn't happen. I'll write a post on this soon but be prepared for some film action happening! I hope at least. I have to admit I've fallen behind on the daily365 in March but if you follow me on Twitter, I'll let you know what I'm up to!
